Arts and Culture Committee · artculture@youngpa.org
The Arts and Culture committee is dedicated to highlighting events, programs and venues that bring music, laughter, performance, history, and beauty to our region. In addition to promoting events and providing YPA members with discounts and special experiences in the traditional venues like the Arcadia Theatre, Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center, and the War Memorial, we are always on the lookout for new and emerging artists and venues. The Arts and Culture committee is also developing some fun and family-friendly upcoming events such as YPA Day at the Discovery Center and a one night ball room dance class.

Business Committee · business@youngpa.org
The YPA Business Committee has been privileged to have several of the top business executives from our area to share their experiences and expertise as entrepreneurs and leaders in business and the community in our Business Boomerang and Entrepreneur Round table Workshops . Our Committee also hosts Business After Hours events, this past December we hosted a “Business Blanket Bash” where we collected 40 new blankets that were delivered to the homeless shelter to be distributed to those in need. In 2010, we plan to host a business related workshop monthly as well as host a networking/business after hours event bimonthly. As the YPA Business Committee grows we will be working aggressively along with the other committees to raise money through sponsorships and fundraising to support the community and the organization.

Community Outreach Committee · outreach@youngpa.org
One of the goals of YPA is to give back to the community as much as possible. We are proud to report that since its start, YPA members have logged over 800 hours of community service and helped 28 different charitable organizations. Highlights have included the Fill Up the Food Banks community wide food drive that involved 15 area businesses/organizations and collected 62 bins of food for area food banks. The past two Decembers YPA members rolled up their sleeves and hosted a blood drive at the Galleria. We are also proud to say that YPA has raised significant funds for the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk and the Leukemia Lymphoma Light the Night Walk. This past spring YPA members joined forces with the Johnstown Redevelopment Authority and Capri Pizza to paint the old Revco building downtown. Our members have also taken on an initiative to spread a little cheer at area care facilities conducting several visits to area nursing homes. Other activities have included the: Downtown Johnstown Clean Up, Haw’s Pike Garden Project, Salvation Army Toy Room, Beginning’s Prom Fashion Show, Bandshell Bark, Warrior Transition Unit (WTU) donations, Alzheimer’s Baggo Tournament, Cambria County Humane Society and the Johnstown Halloween Parade. We are always looking for volunteers!

Recreation Committee · recreation@youngpa.org
The recreation committee is looking forward to an exciting year. This year, from spring until fall, we plan to highlight the many trails and green space around Johnstown. Not only will you have the opportunity to hike and bike with other YPA’ers, but you’ll also get to find some new trails and treasures that you may have not been familiar with. Also, this year our charity flag football tournament will be returning. Start thinking now about your favorite charity and your defensive line. Additionally, we are looking to plan some other events, and need some enthusiastic members to help us with this task.

Social Committee · social@youngpa.org
The YPA Social Committee organizes the First Friday Happy Hour to be held the first Friday of each month at different locations or events each month. Join fellow YPA members to network and get to know more about each other in this fun setting. In the past, YPA-ers have ventured to Green Gables for wine tasting, enjoyed the summer sun at the deck at Shananagan’s and recently welcomed the Bankers Lofts to the downtown Johnstown neighborhood. Along with the First Friday Happy Hours, the social committee is planning a St. Patrick’s Day Bar Bus Tour, a Johnstown Chiefs hockey game and a large scale event to take place in the Fall.
